LEGAL & POLICIES
Clear terms for using The Climate Academy website, Moodle learning platform and associated educational services.
Welcome to The Climate Academy. These Terms of Use govern access to and use of The Climate Academy website, Moodle learning platform, educational resources, learner accounts, assessments, certificates, digital credentials and associated services.
The Climate Academy is an educational programme and learning platform developed and operated by Ecologos SRL, a company incorporated in Belgium. The Climate Academy is not a separate legal entity. References to “the Academy”, “we”, “our” and “us” mean Ecologos SRL when acting through The Climate Academy.
When a form or registration process asks you to tick the legal acknowledgement box, you confirm that you have read and accept the version of these Terms identified at that time. Our separate Privacy Notice explains how personal data is handled.
These Terms apply to theclimateacademy.org, moodle.theclimateacademy.org and associated Academy services, including learning resources, learner accounts, assessments, evidence submission, certificates, digital credentials, verification services and educational communications.
The Academy uses 16 as its standard age threshold for independent online registration. A learner who is under 16 must follow the Academy’s parental or guardian authorisation process unless registration is arranged through an authorised school or organisation operating under an agreed institutional process.
You must provide accurate information, keep account credentials secure, and not allow another person to use your account or impersonate you. If you act for a school or other organisation, you confirm that you have authority to do so.
The Academy provides climate education and related learning opportunities. Learning materials are generally made available for educational purposes and may be updated as knowledge, educational practice and the programme develop.
Unless expressly stated otherwise, completion of an Academy course is not professional accreditation and does not guarantee employment, academic credit, professional competence or recognition by any third party.
Learners are expected to study honestly, submit authentic work and evidence, follow published assessment instructions, respect other learners and staff, and comply with the Academy’s Academic Standards, Learner Expectations and Assessment Policy.
Impersonation, plagiarism, fabricated or falsified evidence, unauthorised collaboration, deliberate manipulation of Academy systems, or other conduct intended to misrepresent achievement may lead to investigation, reassessment, refusal or withdrawal of certification, or restriction of access.
Artificial Intelligence and other digital tools may be used only in ways consistent with the Academy’s published Academic Standards. They may support learning, research, explanation, language and accessibility, but must not be used to misrepresent AI-generated output as the learner’s own understanding or achievement.
Assessment may include quizzes, written work, peer assessment, tutor assessment, evidence review, reflective activity and practical application. Published requirements and marking criteria apply to each award.
Where evidence is submitted or linked, you confirm that you are entitled to provide it and that it does not unlawfully disclose confidential, personal or third-party material. Some evidence-based awards may use stable or publicly accessible evidence links for assessment and verification; the relevant course instructions explain what is required.
Certificates and digital credentials are issued only when the published requirements have been satisfied. The Academy may delay or refuse an award while eligibility or evidence is checked, correct administrative errors, and revoke or amend an award where fraud, misrepresentation, serious academic misconduct or significant administrative error is established.
The Academy may provide public verification of the authenticity and current status of an award. Verification confirms the Academy’s award record; it does not endorse a learner for employment or professional practice.
Educational programmes evolve. Where a learner has begun a certification pathway and the Academy has formally recorded the applicable requirements for that learner, the Academy will normally assess that learner against that recorded version rather than retrospectively applying later requirements. This protects fairness while allowing the programme to improve.
Access to learning materials is generally free. Charges may apply to optional assessment, certification, digital credential, verification or other services where clearly stated before purchase. Payments may be processed by third-party payment providers; the Academy does not store full payment-card details.
Where mandatory consumer law gives you a right to cancel or withdraw from a paid distance contract, those rights are not affected by these Terms. For services or digital content supplied during a statutory withdrawal period, the Academy will obtain any express request, consent or acknowledgement required by applicable law before relying on an exception to the withdrawal right.
If an optional certificate, credential or other service has not yet been fully supplied, contact the Academy promptly if you wish to cancel. Refunds will be handled in accordance with applicable mandatory consumer law and any additional refund information shown at the point of purchase.
Unless otherwise stated, Academy text, graphics, course design, software, assessments, branding and other materials are owned by Ecologos SRL or used under licence by Ecologos SRL.
Academy names, logos and branding may not be reproduced or used in a way that suggests endorsement or affiliation without permission.
Users may read Academy content, share links to it, download resources that are explicitly made available for download, and quote reasonable extracts with appropriate attribution, subject to any licence or restriction stated with the material. Certain materials, including the main Student Book where indicated, are released under Creative Commons CC BY-NC-SA. Those materials may be shared and adapted only within the terms of the stated licence. Materials not carrying an open licence may not be republished in substantial part, presented as another person’s own work, commercially reproduced, redistributed or adapted without prior written permission, and no Academy material may be used for an unlawful purpose.
Learners may undertake events, publications or other activities as part of Academy awards. Unless the Academy expressly confirms otherwise in writing, such learner-led activity is undertaken by the learner or organising group and does not make the learner an agent, employee or authorised representative of the Academy. Learners are responsible for complying with applicable law, permissions, safety requirements and third-party rights.
You must not misuse Academy websites or systems, attempt unauthorised access, introduce malicious code, interfere with other users, scrape or extract data unlawfully, or use the services in a way that infringes the rights of others.
The Academy aims to provide reliable services but cannot guarantee uninterrupted availability. Maintenance, upgrades, internet failures and circumstances outside reasonable control may affect access. Links to third-party websites and services are provided for convenience or educational value. The Academy is not responsible for the content, privacy policies, practices or operation of third-party websites or services, which remain the responsibility of their respective providers.
Personal data is handled under the Academy’s separate Privacy Notice. Cookies and similar technologies are described in the separate Cookie Policy. Where consent is required for non-essential cookies or optional marketing, it will be requested separately.
The Academy may suspend, restrict or terminate access where reasonably necessary to protect security, academic integrity, other users, legal compliance or the proper operation of the programme. Where appropriate, significant decisions will be communicated to the affected learner and any available review process explained.
The Academy provides educational services in good faith and makes reasonable efforts to keep website and educational information accurate and up to date. However, no guarantee is given that all information will always be complete, error-free, current or suitable for every particular purpose, and users should exercise their own judgement when relying on it. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Ecologos SRL is not liable for indirect or consequential loss arising from use of Academy services. Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability where exclusion or limitation is prohibited by law, or removes mandatory consumer rights.
These Terms are governed by Belgian law, subject to any mandatory consumer protections that apply in the learner’s country of residence. Nothing in these Terms removes any mandatory right a consumer may have to bring proceedings in the courts of their own country.
These Terms are version controlled. The version number and effective date are published with the document. A person’s legal acknowledgement record should identify the version presented when the acknowledgement was made.
If the Academy makes a material change that requires renewed acceptance, users will be asked to acknowledge the new version through an appropriate positive action. Historic acceptance records are retained against the version actually presented; they are not retrospectively rewritten when a later version is published.
If any provision is found invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue in effect. These Terms, together with any expressly incorporated Academy policy and the information presented at a specific purchase or registration step, form the agreement relevant to that service. English is the governing language where translations are supplied for convenience.
Questions about these Terms may be sent to hello@theclimateacademy.org or through the contact facilities on the Climate Academy website.
